Murray: ‘Excellent’ Rangers player could miss clash v Liege despite impressive Old Firm display
Former Rangers man Neil Murray has praised the form of Glen Kamara while claiming that the Gers midfielder could be dropped due to the quality of his side’s midfield.
Kamara has been in fantastic form for Rangers this season and played a vital role in last weekend’s 2-0 away win over Celtic.
But, speaking to the Scottish Sun, Murray said the 24-year-old could be dropped for the Gers’ next game and has praised the depth of the Ibrox midfield.
He said, “Kamara was excellent at the weekend and he really is an intelligent footballer. He has so much ability on the ball. We tend to forget how young he is and how much better he is going to get.
“Yet, as good as Kamara was at the weekend, Rangers still had Jack, Aribo and Hagi, who they paid a lot of money for, sitting on the bench.
“There are a lot of options in there at the moment and that is what you need when you are challenging on so many fronts. The manager has another big decision to make for the Liege game and you could see Kamara missing out if he switches it up.”
This week Rangers travel to Belgium to take on Standard Liege in their first Europa League group game and as Murray said, Steven Gerrard has a decision to make about his midfield.
Ryan Jack and Ianis Hagi could come back into the Gers starting 11 depending on which set up Gerrard opts for. But they are two quality players and you could make the case for either to start on Thursday.
Joe Aribo may also feature but he may not be fit enough to start. The Nigerian made his comeback from injury in last weekend’s Old Firm, coming on in the dying stages to make his first appearance since he picked up his injury in August.
Rangers will take good form into the game following their derby win and they are still yet to lose in any competitive game this season meaning they could go into the game as favourites, despite being away from home.
