BBC pundit urges Celtic fans to ‘get their heads out of the sand’ over big Rangers claim
BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus has told Celtic fans to get their heads out of the sand if they don’t think Rangers are a threat in the race for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
Steven Gerrard led his side to a second consecutive win at Celtic Park on Saturday as Rangers ran out 2-0 winners courtesy of two goals by defender Connor Goldson.
The Gers’ win moved them four points clear of the Bhoys at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and although it’s still early days, ex-Hibs striker McManus believes Gerrard’s men are now favourites for the title.
“Rangers have been the best side in the last two games at Parkhead and have deservedly won,” McManus told PLZ Soccer’s Football Show on Monday.
“Let’s be honest, they battered Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final. Celtic were very fortunate to win the game.
“It’s not just one game, the signs have been there.
“The proof is in the pudding with the last few results so if the Celtic fans don’t believe Rangers are a genuine threat this season, they need to get their heads out of the sand because Rangers for me are the better side at the minute.
“Celtic need to do something, whether it’s a change of formation, a change of manager. Who knows? But they need to do something to stop the momentum that Rangers have got at the minute.”
McManus is right but due to the insane levels of bias and delusion among some Celtic supporters, there will still be plenty who believe that Lennon’s men are favourites and that they have a divine right to win the Premiership title.
They don’t.
Rangers are the best team in the Scottish Premiership right now – that’s a fact.
They are top of the table by four points, they have conceded just three goals in 11 matches, they knocked out Turkish giants Galatasaray to get to the Europa League and have players who are attracting attention from top leagues in Europe.
Celtic, on the other hand, are four points adrift of the Gers – although they do have a game in hand – they have players who are on a downwards spiral in terms of their form, they have a manager who struggled in England and caused behind-the-scenes issues at Hibernian and they scraped into the Europa League group stages against teams far weaker than what Rangers faced.
We’ll say it again. Rangers are the best team in Scotland.
And it’s about time some rival fans come to terms with that otherwise they’re going to make themselves look very silly.
