Scottish manager: Unsung Rangers hero worth way more than £5m after ‘standout’ display v Celtic
Kelty Hearts manager and former Rangers star Barry Ferguson has said that Glen Kamara was the “standout” player in the 2-0 win against Celtic on Saturday.
Rangers won comfortably at Celtic Park with two goals from centre-back Connor Goldson.
For Ferguson, though, Kamara was the player pulling the strings for Steven Gerrard’s side and he expressed disbelief that the Gers had signed him for just £50,000, saying he was worth a lot more than 100x that amount now.
He also said that the unsung hero “doesn’t get the recognition he deserves”.
Writing in the Daily Record Ferguson said, “Glen Kamara was the standout. How on earth was that guy only £50,000? What would you get for that now? That is the deal of the Century.
“Stick another two zeros on the end of that £50,000 and you’ll not be close to what he’s worth now.
“I thought he was exceptional against a very good Celtic midfield of Brown, McGregor and Ntcham.
“He goes about his business quietly, keeps the thing ticking over simply but effectively. He doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.”
We completely agree with Ferguson about Kamara and at £50,000 he could definitely be the bargain of the decade.
However, we’re not so sure he’s an unsung hero.
The Rangers fans know just how important he is to this side and Gerrard has said that he wants to give him an improved contract. He’s already under contract until 2023.
And Kamara’s star has been spotted down south as well, with Gerrard admitting back in November last year that Premier League scouts were circling.
Kamara was given a 7.3 rating on WhoScored after the 2-0 win against Celtic on Saturday – the highest score of any player outside of the backline for the Gers.
We’re expecting him to get better and better as this Rangers squad really starts to gel in the Premiership.
