Exclusive: McLeish delivers Morelos verdict after yet another Old Firm blank
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has said that the next run of Premiership games is important for Alfredo Morelos, after the striker blanked in another Old Firm game.
Celtic won 2-0 with Connor Goldson getting both goals, while Morelos – looking for his first goal against his rivals – never really looked like scoring.
McLeish thinks that Morelos has shrugged off the disappointment of not securing a big-money move this summer but thinks he has to be able to perform week-in, week-out if Rangers are going to win the Premiership.
Talking exclusively to Ibrox News Mcleish said, “Maybe they didn’t get the money they wanted. But I’m sure the intent would have been to keep hold of the players this summer.
“Morelos seems to have seen off the blues a bit and he’s looking a bit more lively.
“You can see his reaction when others score, he’s saying, ‘That should have been me’.
“These Premiership games that are coming up now are really important for Morelos. We know he can do it but it’s doing it time and time again.
“He’s maybe been a bit unhappy that he didn’t get his move but he does seem to have shrugged that off even though he still couldn’t get his goal against Celtic.
“There was a lot of pressure for him to get that goal but I think he can ride that pressure out.”
Morelos recorded no shots on target in the game at Celtic Park on Saturday but he was a constant menace for Rangers.
And the fixtures start piling up for Rangers now with a game against Standard Liege on Thursday before Livingston on Sunday.
Every single game is vital now for the Gers.
