Connor Goldson details hilarious Rangers reaction on coach to leaked Celtic XI as Lennon fumes
Rangers centre-back Connor Goldson has said he didn’t believe the leaked Celtic line-up that was posted online ahead of the Old Firm game on Saturday.
He said the Rangers players were convinced stars such as Christopher Jullien and Odsonne Edouard would be playing.
He heard about the leaked side on the team coach en route to the game but he still didn’t believe that would be the starting XI he would line up against.
He said a friend texted him the leaked side featuring academy player Stephen Welsh and that he replied saying, “Yeah, good one”.
Talking on the White & Sawyer Show (talkSPORT, Monday, 11am) Goldson was asked about his reaction to the leaked team news that left Neil Lennon seething.
“We thought Julien and Edouard would play. We saw the leak but we didn’t believe it,” Goldson said.
“Truthfully, I got on the coach and I got a message off a mate saying Welsh was playing and I texted back to say, ‘Good one’.”
Jim White asked about the muted celebrations afterwards and Goldson said it was a sign of a more mature Ranger side.
“We’ve got some big games coming up and we just need to put together a good run in the league.
“Old Firm games are the hardest but the other games, as a team, we’ve been a lot better and shown our consistency. Hopefully, by the end of the season we’ll be celebrating.
“It was a happy changing room afterwards but it was more relief after winning the game and everyone was happy we got the result we wanted to.”
We think that Lennon is clutching for any straw he can get his hands on at the moment.
Teams are leaked all the time. Danny Murphy, talking on the same talkSPORT show, said he couldn’t remember a game he played in when the team wasn’t leaked.
What’s brilliant about this is that the Celtic side was so bad, Goldson didn’t believe that was the starting XI he’d be going up against.
That’s hilarious and likely to make Lennon even angrier.
The Celtic hierarchy can look for as many excuses as they want for the manner of the defeat on Saturday.
Goldson has confirmed that, for Rangers, this was just another win in a very serious challenge for the Premiership title.
