‘Brilliant’, ‘OMG’ – These Rangers fans blown away by one player in first-half v Celtic
Rangers got off the perfect start in the Old Firm clash on Saturday courtesy of a brilliant headed goal from Connor Goldson.
All the talk ahead of the game had been on the respective strikers, with Alfredo Morelos starting and Odsonne Edouard missing out.
But it was the Rangers centre-back who made the difference after just nine minutes of the game – and Gers fans were left delirious on Twitter.
It came from a free-kick and another brilliant delivery from James Tavernier, which has been excellent all season.
He put in a peach of a ball to Goldson, who cleverly came back onside just as the kick was taken.
Pulling back into the box he found himself unmarked and flicked the ball off his head and past the despairing Vasilios Barkas in goal.
Barkas should have done better but that’s to take nothing away from a fantastic finish from Goldson.
Celtic came back into the game and Mohamed Elyounoussi had a brilliant chance to equalise after 15 minutes but lost all composure when he found himself one-on-one with Allan McGregor.
Goldson showed the other side of his game there with some terrible defending, but he was performing heroics at the back shortly after, blocking a shot from Callum McGregor.
There’s a long way to go in this one but it’s a brilliant start for the Gers and the team taking the lead in Old Firm games has only lost four in 88 games. Just saying.
Here are the best reactions to Goldson’s first-half contribution…
