‘Danger’ – Exclusive: McLeish warns Rangers about one man if Celtic star ruled out for Sat clash

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has said that if Odsonne Edouard is ruled out of the Old Firm clash on Saturday, the Rangers defenders will be talking about how to snuff out the threat of Leigh Griffiths.

The 30-year-old striker returned after a calf strain and got his first goal of the season after coming on in the 76th minute against St Johnstone in Celtic’s last Premiership game.

Edouard is a major doubt for the game on Saturday after testing positive for Covid-19 last week.

McLeish said it would be a huge chance for Griffiths and that the striker would be a real danger man for Rangers to deal with.

Talking exclusively to Ibrox News on Thursday McLeish said, “If Edouard is out it’s a huge chance for Griffiths and it will be uppermost in the minds of the Rangers defenders too.

“There’s a danger when he’s got a bit of confidence about him, he ghosts into these positions like he did against St Johnstone last week.

“The defenders were sitting deep and he came into space on the edge of the box.

“The Rangers defenders will be, I’m sure, discussing the possibility of him starting and how to snuff him out and make sure he doesn’t get into these positions he’s readily got himself into over the last 12 years or so.”

We’re sure that given the choice, the Rangers defenders would prefer to be up against Griffiths than a fully fit Edouard.

Edouard has scored six goals already this season, including four in seven games in the Premiership.

Griffiths hasn’t hit double figures in a season since the 17/18 Premiership campaign.
