‘I’d love to be involved’ – Rangers ace wants to make amends in clash v Celtic
Rangers winger Jordan Jones has said he is looking to have a more ‘positive’ experience in this weekend’s Old Firm game, after being sent off in last season’s meeting with Celtic.
Jones was sent off in the dying stages in the first Old Firm of last season for a very late tackle on Celtic’s Moritz Bauer as the Gers lost 2-0 at Ibrox.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Jones spoke about his experience of last years meeting between the Glasgow rivals and how he thinks his performances this season may have given him a chance to make amends.
Speaking about the game Jones said, “I’d love to be involved. Obviously my last Old Firm wasn’t the best memory so I’d really like an opportunity to change that experience and change it into a positive one. We have to see what happens.
“You think hopefully things will change and thankfully I got my opportunity earlier in the season and scored a goal which was a really special moment.”
Jones has taken his chances when they have been presented to him this season. He was handed a start when the Gers travelled to Motherwell and scored his first goal of the season during an excellent display.
The Northern Irishman also started against Ross County in Rangers’ last game, meaning Jones could be in contention to start at Celtic Park in what could be the Gers’ biggest game of the season so far.
Celtic will have several first-team players missing when the sides meet on Saturday, with Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie, Nir Bitton and Hatem Elhamed all potentially missing the game due to isolating after either contracting COVID-19 or being in close contact with someone who’s tested positive for the disease.
Rangers, however, could be without veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor with the Daily Record reporting that the 38-year-old is a ‘doubt’ for the derby clash.
Rangers fans will be hoping that their side can give themselves a huge advantage in the title race with a win over the Hoops and they will surely be hoping that Jones can contribute to a famous win.
