‘Rangers are flying’ – Mark McGhee makes prediction for Gers clash v Celtic

Former Celtic striker Mark McGhee believes his old side have a “game on their hands” when they welcome Rangers to Parkhead on Saturday.

Rangers go into the first Old Firm derby of the season as Scottish Premiership leaders with a one-point advantage over second-placed Celtic, who have a game in hand.

Steven Gerrard’s side were in top form before the international break by securing big wins over Willem II and Motherwell before an impressive victory against Galatasaray to qualify for the Europa League.

Although Celtic’s form is no worse, Neil Lennon’s side had to grind out Europa League wins against Riga and Sarajevo before a 2-0 win over St Johnstone in their last match before the break.

McGhee has suggested he’s worried about his former club’s chances in the upcoming Old Firm derby this weekend.

“Rangers are flying. They’re scoring goals, they’re energetic, they’re positive, they’re confident,” McGhee told PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show on Monday. “To be honest, Celtic will need to do well to win this one.

“Regardless of everything else, Celtic have a game on their hands.”

McGhee is right and Celtic would be crazy to not agree with their former striker. Rangers are flying.

Gerrard’s side is scoring goals from left, right and centre and they’ve also become very difficult to score against.

It will be interesting how the international break affects both sides but Celtic have been dealt blow after blow in the last couple of weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rangers, on the other hand, haven’t had that kind of bad luck but, of course, there is still time for something to come up when players return to Glasgow over the course of the coming days.

At the end of the day, this is the biggest derby in the world and although it’s a cliche, anything can happen in these matches.

In other Rangers news, the Celtic Supporters Association has written an embarrassing letter to the SFA about the upcoming Old Firm.
