Sky Sports pundit ‘thrilled’ by Rangers 25y/o after major Ibrox turnaround
Former Rangers defender Gareth McAuley is delighted by the turnaround that Jordan Jones has had at Ibrox in the last few weeks.
Jones, 25, had a year to forget in his debut campaign at Rangers last season after signing for the Light Blues from Kilmarnock on a free transfer.
The Northern Ireland winger started just two Scottish Premiership matches as he struggled with a major knee injury and the fact that he wasn’t in Steven Gerrard’s plans once he recovered.
However, Jones has recently emerged as one of Rangers’ best players in the last few weeks as he earned his first league start in over a year against Motherwell, scoring in a 5-1 win at Fir Park and then keeping his starting spot for the win over Ross County.
Ex-Northern Ireland international McAuley has been raving about Jones for reviving his Rangers career in the last few weeks.
“There were many who believed he was finished at Ibrox but he has never lost faith, put the head down and worked hard,” said the Sky Sports pundit, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“I’m thrilled for Jordan. Full of confidence, he can be a top player for Rangers.”
Jones has also been impressing for Northern Ireland.
Even though the Green and White Army lost 1-0 to Austria on Sunday, both Rangers and Northern Ireland supporters were delighted with what they saw from Jones, with one even dubbing him as the man of the match and another giving him 10 out of 10 for his display.
Jones is now playing regularly for the first time in a long time and that is only going to benefit Rangers now they have reached the Europa League group stages.
There are going to be a lot of matches to play between now and the end of the year so Jones is bound to start way more often than many would have thought not too long ago.
It remains to be seen if he’ll start against Celtic this week in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
If he does, then that will cap what has been a massive turnaround by the player.
In other Rangers news, this player could return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines to feature against Celtic.
