Rangers player could return from lengthy injury blow in clash v Celtic – report
Joe Aribo could feature for Rangers for the first time in over two months when the Gers take on Celtic at Parkhead next week, according to GlasgowLive.
Aribo, 24, has missed Rangers’ last 10 matches due to an ankle injury he sustained in mid-August.
The attacking midfielder was left out of the latest Nigeria squad but GlasgowLive reports he could be involved in the Old Firm on Saturday when Rangers make the short journey across Glasgow to play Neil Lennon’s Celtic.
Aribo was key for Rangers in their first three Scottish Premiership matches of the season as he started against Aberdeen, St Mirren and St Johnstone.
The former Charlton ace scored in the 3-0 win over Callum Davidson’s side but hasn’t featured since due to this ankle injury.
Stats by WyScout show that Aribo completed 89.3 per cent of his passes in those three matches.
He also attempted 11.59 dribbles and 3.09 passes into the penalty area per 90 minutes of the three opening fixtures.
If Aribo plays against Celtic then he will offer a great cutting edge to the Rangers attack but with him not playing a match in over two months, it might be a bit of a risk to play him at all – especially against the Bhoys.
Steven Gerrard will want Aribo to be back involved as soon as possible, especially with the lack of attacking options he has in the centre of his midfield.
But he cannot afford to rush him into a game like this one because Celtic have the players that will find out someone who’s being carried by his team-mates if he’s not at 100 per cent.
