10,000 fans could attend Rangers fixture before end of the year – report
Lech Poznan have announced that they will have 10,000 home fans in their stadium when they take on Rangers in the Europa League.
Rangers take on Lech Poznan at the Poznan Stadium on December 10 and it is likely to be the first time the Gers play in front of a decent crowd since they took on Bayer Leverkusen at Ibrox in March.
According to a report in the Scottish Sun, the Polish side have said that just under a quarter of their stadium’s capacity will be available to home fans only, when the club play in Europe.
The report says, ‘Lech Poznan have announced they will have a limit of 10,000 for their three home matches at the Stadion Poznan, which has a capacity of 43,269, because Polish regulations only allow 25 per cent of fans into grounds at the moment.
Lech Poznan spokesman Maciej Henszel said: “We intend to put on sale around 10,000 tickets in line with Polish guidelines.
“Season ticket holders will have priority and there will be no away fans.”
This will come as a blow to Gers fans, as their wait to watch their team in action again will go on.
Some may see this development as unfair on Rangers. Teams haven’t had as much of a home advantage since fans have been excluded from stadiums and the fact that Poznan will be playing with their fans behind them and the other clubs in their group won’t, perhaps gives them an unfair advantage.
The Gers drew Lech Poznan, Standard Liege and Benfica in the Group Stage of the Europa League and will fancy themselves to progress after avoiding a much trickier set of games. The proof of that is in their Old Firm rivals, as Celtic drew AC Milan, Lille and Sparta Prague.
The two Glasgow sides will meet for the first time this season after the international break in what could prove to be a huge game in the title race. Following this the Gers will get their European campaign underway as they travel to Belgium to face Standard Liege.
