Social media post suggests Rangers star may be fit for Old Firm clash v Celtic
Rangers striker Kemar Roofe has dropped a hint that he may be fit to face Celtic in the first Old Firm game of the season next weekend.
Roofe picked up an injury in Rangers’ 5-0 win over Lincoln Red Imps and hasn’t featured since. But the English striker has hinted he could be back in action soon.
The Rangers striker posted a photo on Instagram of himself wearing his football boots accompanied by the big eyes emoji. This emoji is sometimes used to hint that something might be in the pipeline, and it could suggest that Roofe will be back playing for the Gers in the near future.
If Roofe is fit it will provide a huge boost for the Gers ahead of the crucial derby game against their Glasgow rivals.
Roofe has notched two goals in five games Scottish Premiership games since his summer arrival from Belgian side Anderlecht, with his goals coming against Kilmarnock and Dundee United.
The Gers haven’t suffered in Roofe’s absence, but having him back will add more attacking options to Steven Gerrard’s squad, and give the Gers boss greater room to rotate his squad.
Fixtures will start to pile up for the Gers following the international break, with a number of key games approaching Rangers as they embark on their Europa League group stage campaign.
Gerrard’s side will play Celtic, Standard Liege, Lech Poznan and Benfica is the space of a month, and Roofe’s return will give the Gers boss plenty of strength and depth in the forward position, with Alfredo Morelos, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe all fit.
Roofe may find he is used in Europe more than in the league, as he was registered in the Gers’ Europa League squad, while Defoe was left out.
