Ibrox View: Eye-catching moment in int’l mauling hints at rarely-seen side of Rangers regular
The international break is always a nervy time for Rangers fans, but none more so than when we have an Old Firm clash against Celtic waiting on the other side of it.
The absolute last thing we need going into that clash are injuries, and so it is always a cause of some relief when we see a player start on the bench, or come out of a match unscathed.
That was the case on Wednesday night, when Glen Kamara started Finland’s clash against Poland on the sidelines.
Truthfully, his team could have really done with his help though.
Finland were mauled 5-1 by their opponents, and even a 31-minute cameo from the Ibrox ace could do little to turn the tide.
Still, Kamara could come out of this one with his head held high.
Despite his side’s woes, the midfielder completed 23 out of his 24 attempted passes, giving him a success rate of 96%, as per Wyscout.
That tally was his joint-second-highest of the season so far, and as per usual, Kamara showed great range and vision.
But what will be especially pleasing to Gers supporters is that Kamara even managed to play a key pass.
And the whole passage of play surrounding it is the kind of proactiveness that we’d like to see more of in Glasgow.
Kamara is the player circled in the image above.
Anticipating the pass into midfield, the 24-year-old steps up and wins ball brilliantly.
Once he has dispossessed his man, Kamara then kicks into a higher gear.
Shrugging off his man, Kamara runs nearly half the length of the pitch with power and purpose.
This is the kind of drive that would go down a treat at Ibrox, and it’s a shame we don’t see it more often.
Getting his head up well, the midfielder then picks out a wonderful pass to his teammate out on the left flank, and but for a smart save, he would have had a superb assist to his name.
Hopefully Steven Gerrard picked up on this moment of magic and uses it has a blueprint for Kamara’s game from this point onwards.
If he does then, the 24-year-old could unlock a whole new side of his game.
