Report shares major update on Rangers pursuit of Jack Wilshere

Rangers are yet to make a move for free-agent midfielder Jack Wilshere, according to the Daily Mail.

Wilshere recently mutually agreed to terminate his contract with West Ham after failing to make any impact at the London Stadium.

Steven Gerrard has been urged to sign up the England international, and talks were said to have begun at the Ibrox.

Journalist Nicolo Schira claimed on his personal Twitter account recently that the Bears were in advanced talks with Wilshere.

That doesn’t appear to be right though, with the midfielder available to make his next move outside of the past window.

Wilshere has been injury-prone for many years now and failed to make more than a handful of appearances in the Premier League.

There have been some doubts, but Wilshere himself claimed recently that he has been fit and training hard for the past eight months.

Wilshere was on £100,000-a-week at the London Stadium, and those sort of wages would not be on the table in Glasgow.

It would make more sense for the Gers to negotiate some sort of pay-as-you-play deal for the midfielder, who could make a massive impact at Ibrox.

The 28-year-old hasn’t completed 90 minutes since 2018 in a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal and giving Wilshere a big contract would be a massive risk.

This is a significant update, but it doesn’t mean that the Bears won’t be opening their cheque book any time soon – watch this space.
