Key Rangers player could only train once before Old Firm clash v Celtic – report

Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos will be facing a race against time to feature in the Old Firm clash against Celtic on Saturday.

The striker is away with Colombia on international duty, as they begin their qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in South America.

Morelos will be hoping to make his competitive debut for his country, with games against both Venezuela and Peru on the agenda.

Steven Gerrard will be sweating over his forward options for the huge clash with Celtic, with Kemar Roofe out and a potential banana skin with Morelos’ travel.

Morelos will be the last to return to Glasgow, and the Scotsman has reported he could only be available for one training session before the Old Firm.

That would seriously hamper Gerrard’s plans and tactics for the game, and could lead to Cedric Itten or Jermain Defore getting the nod to start.

Morelos is perfect for games against the bitter rivals, and the South American will be chomping at the bit to start the game at Celtic Park.

Gerrard has rotated in the final third smartly this season but will want one of his best players available for the game against Celtic.

Morelos has it all, not only does he score frequently, he has the grit and determination needed for these games.

The 24-year-old hasn’t scored since the 2-2 draw at Hibernian, and what better occasion than for him to end that streak than against Celtic.

Itten may be the only other option, but Gerrard won’t want to start a player in a game like this that has recently admitted he needs to toughen up in Scotland.

We believe nothing would stop Morelos from playing in the Old Firm and expect him to be raring to go next Saturday, one training session or none.
