Report details major new twist in Morelos future at Rangers, potential fast-track move emerges
Alfredo Morelos might yet leave Rangers despite the Scottish transfer window slamming shut on Monday night, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper claims that Qatari club Al-Duhail are plotting a move to sign the 24-year-old striker even though he turned down a £13million move to the mega-rich club in the summer.
Morelos is reportedly holding out to join one of Europe’s top-five leagues, however, Al-Duhail have a link-up with Paris Saint-Germain and could lure the Colombia forward to Qatar by teasing a “potential fast-track move” to the Ligue 1 giants.
Qatari clubs have until October 25 to sign new players so Morelos’ future at Rangers is by no means set in stone just yet.
The forward has been widely criticised by supporters for his form in 2020, with many suggesting that his head is not in the right place due to the increased speculation surrounding his future at Ibrox.
BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton said last week that Morelos “needs to knuckle down” to rediscover the form that he lost at the turn of the year.
In 2020, the former HJK Helsinki forward has scored just three goals in 15 Scottish Premiership appearances.
Before last season’s winter break, the striker netted 12 goals in 18 league matches for the Light Blues.
We all know that Morelos is a top-quality striker who is good enough to play for a good team in one of Europe’s top leagues.
However, Rangers are not ready to sell him just yet and his stuttering form could have put potential bidders off as they looked at signing the striker.
Morelos, for the good of his future and for the good of Rangers, needs to get his head down and start scoring goals soon.
Otherwise, he might end up getting lost in the football wilderness at a club like Al-Duhail and never clinching that potential move to PSG.
