Rangers in advanced talks to sign free agent – journalist

Rangers are in advanced talks to sign Jack Wilshere on a free transfer after the midfielder was released by West Ham on Monday, according to transfer expert Nicolo Schira.

The Italian journalist reported via his personal Twitter account in the early hours of Wednesday morning that the Light Blues have ramped up their pursuit of the 28-year-old free agent after he was originally linked with a move to Ibrox by reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee.

Rangers snapped up Bongani Zungu on a loan-to-buy basis from Amiens on deadline day but it seems that Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson want to continue strengthening the club’s midfield options and a move for Wilshere would be very exciting for supporters.

Although the former Arsenal midfielder has had his fair share of injury issues in his career, there is no denying that he is one heck of a talented player when he’s on form.

Wilshere has been capped 34 times by England and has 182 Premier League appearances to his name, which is the level of experience in the game that some of Rangers’ players can only hope for.

However, signing Wilshere could be tricky as the midfielder was reportedly earning £100,000-a-week on his contract at West Ham before it was terminated on deadline day.

If Wilshere wants to revive his career, get regular game-time, play in Europe and play for silverware, then Rangers is the place for him to go because if he can avoid injuries and stay fit, he would surely be a regular starter for Gerrard.

But he will have to lower his wage expectations because there’s no way the Gers are going to match what West Ham were paying him at the London Stadium.

In other Rangers news, a deadline day claim about Bongani Zungu has been rubbished.
