‘Massive milestone’ – Rangers star delighted after reaching ‘Incredible’ achievement

Rangers midfielder Steven Davis is set to become Northern Ireland’s most-capped player on Thursday evening.

The veteran Bears midfielder equalled Pat Jennings’ record of 119 caps last month and is set to feature against Bosnia tomorrow.

Davis has cemented his spot in Steven Gerrard’s side this season too, with the boss ecstatic with his performance against Galatasaray.

The 35-year-old opened up on the achievement recently, claiming it will be an “incredible” moment for him.

“It is a massive milestone for me,” he told Sky Sports.

“I’ve probably downplayed it a little in the past but that’s just in my nature and the way football is. You try to concentrate on one game at a time without looking too far ahead.

“Having come back from the last trip and having had so many messages about equalling Pat’s record, it has given me time to sit back and realise what an incredible achievement it is.”

It is a compliment to Davis that he is able to continue to feature in Rangers side when they have so many options in midfield.

Ryan Jack has found it very difficult to feature since returning from injury, and Davis is the main reason behind that.

Not many can say they have broken the cap record for their country, and to have that experience in the squad at Ibrox is vital to any title challenge.

Even if Davis isn’t on the pitch, he will be in the changing rooms, giving crucial advice to his teammates when they need it the most.

What an achievement.
