‘I didn’t want to bring it up but…’ – Broadcaster shares text he was sent about Jack Wilshere
Ally McCoist has shed doubt upon whether Jack Wilshere can be a good addition at Rangers after being released by West Ham on Monday.
Wilshere, 28, has been linked with a move to Ibrox since terminating his £100,000-a-week contract at the London Stadium with Italian journalist Nicolo Schira reporting that the Scottish Premiership leaders are in “advanced talks” to sign the ex-Arsenal midfielder.
Rangers legend McCoist has since been discussing Wilshere’s potential move to Glasgow with former Celtic player Alan Brazil.
McCoist is concerned by Wilshere’s lack of game-time at West Ham but Brazil has shared what he has heard about the midfielder’s fitness.
“There’s talk about him and Rangers,” McCoist told talkSPORT on Tuesday morning while talking to host Brazil.”I just think his career has come to a standstill a little bit. I don’t know if you agree or not.”
Brazil replied: “I didn’t want to bring it up but I got a text a couple of days ago saying that Jack has been fit for eight months. He’s just not getting a game, but he has been fit. It’s not an injury. It’s not a niggle. He’s alright and ready for selection.”
Even though Wilshere has been fit for most of the year, David Moyes has regularly overlooked the 34-times England international, whose last Premier League start for West Ham came against Brighton last August.
Wilshere played just eight times in the league for the Hammers last season due to a serious groin injury and of those eight appearances, only two of them were starts.
Terminating his contract at West Ham was a good move for the sake of his career and he’ll now be looking to revive his form elsewhere.
Rangers might not be a bad place to do that with Steven Gerrard needing an extra body in the midfield.
However, Wilshere’s £100,000-a-week wages at West Ham could mean that the Gers will be priced out of a move for the English playmaker unless he massively reduces his expectations.
