‘Tremendous’ – Alan Rough wowed by ‘absolutely superb’ Rangers ace who fans were ‘doubting’

Alan Rough has hailed Rangers captain James Tavernier for his “tremendous” work so far this season.

The Ibrox skipper has been in electric form in front of goal, hitting eight strikes in his last eight outings.

Former Scotland goalkeeper Rough suggested that a number of fans had questioned the full-back in recent seasons, but claimed that he has fully transformed himself over the past couple of months.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, he said: “A year ago, a lot of Rangers supporters were doubting his performances.

“A lot of the goals they were losing were down his channel, but I’ve never had a problem with him.

“I’ve always said, as an attacking full-back, he’s absolutely superb. Defensively, possibly not, but if you’re going forward that amount during a game, you need people to cover for you, and if there’s any weaknesses back there it’s up to the people behind him.

“I think he’s really stepped up to the plate and he’s been a tremendous player for Rangers this year.”

How good has Tavernier been this season?

So far, he has been incredible, there’s no two ways about it.

The captain has come flying out of the blocks in 2020/21, and his record in front of goal has been jaw-dropping.

But Tavernier is offering a lot more than just a regular goal threat.

As per Wyscout, his shot accuracy, pass accuracy, duel success rate, dribble success rate, and cross accuracy are all better than they were last term.

In pretty much every aspect of his game he is eclipsing his output from last year, and in a season with as much riding on it as this one, that’s brilliant to see.
