Reliable journalist rubbishes Zungu claim as Rangers move is sealed, player himself retweets it
Bongani Zungu is not in Glasgow and finalised his loan move to Rangers without leaving France, according to The Star journalist Joe Crann.
On Monday night, as the transfer deadline loomed, the Daily Record reported that Zungu, 27, was in Glasgow with his agent Alexis Ramalingam to complete a loan move to Ibrox from Ligue 2 club Amiens.
However, Zungu is yet to arrive in Scotland, with Crann reporting that he’s still in France.
Interestingly, Zungu himself has retweeted Crann’s tweet via his personal Twitter account, which suggests that The Star’s journalist report is accurate.
Rangers also only uploaded one image of Zungu after the deal was completed and the background doesn’t suggest he was at Ibrox or Auchenhowie when the picture was taken.
We’re sure that Zungu will arrive in Glasgow as soon as possible so that he can train with Steven Gerrard’s side over the international break.
Although he’s a South Africa international, the midfielder has not been called up to the Bafana Bafana squad for upcoming friendlies against Namibia and Zambia.
Thats is likely to be because Zungu has barely played for Amiens in the last year, starting just 10 Ligue 1 matches last season as they were relegated.
He made his first start of the Ligue 2 season on Saturday in the 2-0 defeat to SM Caen, which suggests that he is on the right track in terms of his fitness.
But Gerrard and his coaches will want to run the rule over Zungu as quickly as possible and get the measure of him before the Old Firm derby on October 17.
In other Rangers news, fans are drooling over this “outstanding” transfer report.
