‘Phenomenal’ – Ferguson and Ferry hail Rangers ace who has ‘took the bull by the horns’ in 20/21
Barry Ferguson and Si Ferry have heaped praise on Rangers captain James Tavernier for his recent run of form.
The full-back has been a standout performer for the Gers so far this season, and hit his eighth goal in as many matches against Ross County on Sunday afternoon.
But Ferguson in particular has been impressed with the enhanced leadership qualities that the defender has shown in the early stages of the campaign.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, he said: “That’s one of the big differences I’ve seen from James Tavernier this season.
“He’s took the bull by the horns. He looks to me as if he’s a proper leader now – he understands the situation that he’s in that he’s under pressure to go and win trophies as a captain.
“There’s always been a question defensively with Tavernier, but going forward, I think he’s phenomenal.”
Agreeing with the former Ibrox midfielder earlier in the show, Ferry said: “He’s flying.”
How influential has Tavernier been this season?
It seems as if we can’t move at the moment for pundits and ex-professionals lavishing praise on Tavernier.
On the same day that Ferguson and Ferry were talking him up, former Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough was also singing his praises to PLZ Soccer.
Truthfully, it’s no surprise though.
For a right-back to have scored eight goals in his last eight games is mind-bogglingly impressive.
Yes, four of those strikes have been penalties, but even then this is a player who missed 60% of the spot kicks he took last term.
The improvement he has shown in the past couple of months has been immense, and if he keeps up this current run of form, he will surely have to be a contender for Player of the Year come the end of the season.
