Sky Sports names player who may be final Rangers signing of transfer window, talks in progress

Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu could be the final addition of the transfer window for Rangers, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster’s Transfer Centre reported at 01:51pm on Monday that the Light Blues are in talks over a loan deal for the 27-year-old South Africa international.

It is understood that Zungu has expressed his desire to leave Amiens after they were relegated from Ligue 1 last season and there’s a chance he could become Steven Gerrard’s final signing before the midnight deadline.

It is widely known among Rangers supporters that the club needs to add a new central midfielder before the clock strikes midnight tonight.

Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo have both had issues with injuries in the opening weeks of the new Scottish Premiership season and there really isn’t much strength in depth among Gerrard’s central options.

Zungu is more of a deep-lying midfielder who is likely to provide some competition for Jack and Glen Kamara.

Last season, according to transfermarkt, the former Mamelodi Sundowns player made 21 Ligue 1 appearances for Amiens before they were relegated.

However, he only started 10 of those matches and never played for more than eight minutes in a match where Amiens won.

Zungu cannot be blamed for wanting to leave Amiens because he’s hardly getting any game-time there and the club has been relegated to Ligue 2.

But do the Gers really want someone who’s hardly kicked a ball in anger in the last year?

It could take him a long time to get up to speed but at least the international break will give him a two-week headstart.
