‘Not for sale’ – Ibrox Exclusive: McLeish urges Rangers to keep key ace amid PL interest report
We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has urged Rangers to hang on to captain James Tavernier in the closing hours of the transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss claimed that the full-back is currently in a rich vein of form, and must be kept at the club as Steven Gerrard’s men push for the Scottish Premiership title.
According to a recent report from TEAMtalk, West Ham have identified Tavernier as a potential target in the closing stages of the transfer market.
But McLeish is adamant that he cannot be allowed to go anywhere.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “They must try and get the ‘not for sale’ sign up.
“It’s such an important season for Rangers. They’re looking to try and get that 55th title, and there are so many important games coming up. The Celtic game in a couple of weeks is going to be a crucial one.
“Right at the moment, James Tavernier is in a good moment in terms of his skill, technique, and power.
“I would like to see him stay, of course.”
Tavernier is currently enjoying a hugely profitable run for the Gers, and hit his eight goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Ross County on Sunday.
The Daily Record reported last week that the Gers intend to block any potential move for their captain, and are hopeful of opening talks over a possible new deal in Glasgow.
In other news, Rangers ace proves he is exciting alternative to Gers regular in Sunday masterclass.
