Medical tonight: Player heads to Glasgow for Rangers transfer, personal terms agreed – report
Rangers have made a breakthrough in their bid to sign Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu with the South Africa international set to undergo a medical in Glasgow tonight (Monday), according to KickOff.
The football news website reports that the Light Blues have agreed personal terms with Zungu, 27, ahead of signing him on a season-long loan.
It is understood that Zungu’s loan at Ibrox will cover the rest of his contract at Amiens so he will be able to join the Gers permanently on a free transfer next summer.
KickOff adds that Zungu will travel to Scotland today (Monday) ahead of the transfer deadline passing at midnight.
There has been a lot of confusion about Zungu’s future at Amiens.
Sky Sports has reported that the midfielder has expressed his desire to quit the French club after their relegation from Ligue 1 while Luka Elsner’s sacking has also thrown another spanner in the works.
Zungu hadn’t featured in any of Amiens’ first four Ligue 2 matches but has played in the last two and even started in the 1-0 defeat to SM Caen on Saturday.
But that seems to have been the South African’s final match for Amiens with him now due to join Rangers before the deadline passes.
It’s been a very good transfer window the Light Blues.
Steven Gerrard has strengthened almost every area of his squad and getting in a new central midfielder will give him plenty of balance across the board.
Whether or not Zungu becomes a regular starter or just a back-up option for someone like Glen Kamara remains to be seen but he adds strength in depth, which is something that was obviously needed after the underwhelming bench that Gerrard named against Ross County on Sunday.
