‘99%’ – Boss issues verdict on whether or not reported Rangers target will leave on Monday
Preston North End manager Alex Neil has claimed that he is “99%” sure that reported Rangers target Daniel Johnson will not be leaving the club before the transfer window shuts on Monday night.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a potential move to Ibrox for some time now, but his current boss is fairly confident that nothing will come of the purported interest.
Johnson missed out on the 4-2 win over Brentford on Sunday afternoon, but Neil has made it clear that he does expect to see him in a Preston shirt again.
As quoted by the Daily Record, he said: “What I do envisage is, if anybody does happen to leave then certainly we would need to replace, dependent on who it was.
“But at the moment, I think it’s a 99% chance that won’t happen.
“Everybody at every club has got a price on their head – if someone comes up with big money, and it’ll need to be big money, then obviously we’d need to replace.
“But I’ve got absolutely no appetite whatsoever to sell anyone.”
What does this mean for Rangers?
It does feel as if this one may just fizzle out without too much fuss, truth be told.
For a long while, it has looked as if the Jamaican was a genuinely viable option for the Gers, but with this latest update from his manager, it would appear that the chances of a deal happening are slim to minimal.
Ibrox assistant Gary McAllister has made it clear that the club are only likely to bring someone in if they could directly improve the first team picture in Glasgow.
Johnson looks as if he definitely falls into that category, but at this stage, it would be a surprise if he became a Rangers player today.
