‘I was wrong… I’m sorry’ – Broadcaster apologises to Rangers fans over key player
RangersTV commentator Clive Tyldesley has apologised to Rangers fans for pronouncing Glen Kamara’s name wrong.
Gers fans have been lighting up social media with memes and responses to Tyldesley’s mispronunciation of the midfielder’s name, with one Photoshop-savvy supporter cropping a Nikon camera onto his head.
Tyldesley, in good humour, has responded to getting Kamara’s name wrong by apologising in the most perfect way possible.
“First things first, I owe you all an apology,” said Tyldesley ahead of Rangers’ win against Ross County, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“I’m bringing the shutter down on Glen Camera. He is now officially Glen Kamara.
“I was sure I’d heard Rangers’ favourite Finn being pronounced Camera by others who know Scottish football better than me.
“I have now checked with the man himself, I was wrong.”
“So those have been superimposing pictures of Nikons and Canons on Glen’s face, you can start looking for images of Chris Kamara to decorate him with today.
“I’m sorry, I’m still learning, and hey, everyone pronounces my name wrong anyway.”
We’re so lucky to have Tyldesley commentating on Rangers games and the way he went about rectifying his mistake shows just how good a broadcaster he is.
Most would have just ignored the memes and the criticism but he has explained why he was wrong, found out from the best possible source for the correct information and then apologised.
He also threw in a good couple of puns to go with the apology and Clive, we can forgive you.
It’s not the first time that a player’s name has been pronounced wrong in Glasgow and it certainly isn’t going to be the last.
Zurab Khizanishvili is the first one that comes to our mind while some fans, pundits and commentators still struggle with Alfredo Morelos, getting him mixed up with former Everton man Kevin Mirallas.
Kamara’s been superb for Rangers since joining the club and his name is likely to be remembered by many for years to come.
Let’s just hope they remember his name correctly, and not for the memes that Tyldesley’s mishap created.
In other Rangers news, fans have slammed this player for his display against Ross County.
