‘Getting better every game’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex McLeish heaps praise on Rangers new boy

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Rangers new boy Cedric Itten is “getting better every game”, according to Alex McLeish.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss argued that the Switzerland international’s body language had improved in recent weeks, and that he has started to put in more work defensively too.

The 23-year-old bagged his first goals in a Rangers shirt when he struck twice from the bench against Motherwell last weekend.

And McLeish also liked what he saw from the hitman during his cameo against Galatasaray in midweek.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “You see body language on the pitch.

“When Itten ran on against Galatasaray, you could see that he was exuding confidence. He was working his way back into his own half when Rangers were defending in the final moments.

“He was a release valve as well when they were breaking away.

“He just looks as if he is getting better every game. It’ll be interesting to see how consistent Itten can be during the whole season. He certainly looks as if he’s brought something to Ibrox.”

Itten has featured nine times for the Gers since making the move from St. Gallen this summer, but has started just twice for Steven Gerrard’s men.

Last season, he hit 20 goals in 36 appearances for his old club across all competitions.
