‘Sensational’ – Barry Ferguson blown away by ‘magnificent’ Rangers ace with ‘huge engine’

Barry Ferguson has lavished praise on Rangers captain James Tavernier for his recent form.

The Gers skipper hit his seventh goal in 12 matches this season in the Europa League win over Galatasaray in midweek.

And Ferguson was blown away by his quality and work ethic in that vital victory.

Writing in a column for the Daily Record, he said: “I was particularly pleased for Tavernier.

“His goal was sensational. He started the move almost on his own goal-line. When I saw him jump for the header moments later in the Galatasaray six-yard box I wondered ‘what the hell are you doing there?’

“It was magnificent and typical of his huge engine and will to get forward.

“He’s had his criticism. Some of it has been well over the top. Some he will have taken on constructively. But he is a guy that has always led from the front even when the flak has flown. You have to respect that. He has been inspirational.”

How good has Tavernier been this season?

It’s no exaggeration to say that the skipper has taken his game to another level this term.

Tavernier has already hit seven goals this season and we’re only just into October.

Last season he hit just three across the entirety of the campaign.

His stats across the board have improved notably too.

As per Wyscout, his shot accuracy, pass accuracy, duel success rate, dribble success rate, and cross accuracy are all better than they were last term.

No matter which way you look at it, Tavernier is having a superb season, and he deserves absolutely all of the praise that he is being given from the likes of Ferguson.
