Report: Former PL legend wants to sign key Rangers star – but there is one hitch
Belgian side Anderlecht are interested in signing Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, with the 24-year-old catching the eye of Vincent Kompany.
However, a report in the Daily Record says that while Kompany’s side want to sign Kamara, they don’t believe they can ‘wrestle him from Rangers’.
The report claims that Kompany thinks the bid it would take to land him is not possible given the current financial state of the club because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Kamara has made 11 appearances so far for the Gers this season and is a key member of Steven Gerrard’s squad.
Rangers bought Kemar Roofe from Anderlecht in August.
The report says: “It has also been claimed that boss Vincent Kompany wanted to land Kamara but feels the funds to any deal would be too heavy for Anderlecht in the current financial climate.
“The issue is that Rangers aren’t actively looking to sell and it would take a major bid for the Ibrox side to even give it consideration.”
Kamara made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Gers last season, scoring a solitary goal against Livingston in the League Cup.
He has been a constant presence in Steven Gerrard’s side since his transfer from Dundee in January 2019. He made 16 appearances for the Gers that season following his arrival at Ibrox.
It is no surprise that Kamara is catching the eye, following his great start to the season. In his eight league appearances, he has barely put a foot wrong, averaging 93.3% passing accuracy, and a 100% long pass accuracy, as per WyScout.
Kamara is also registering a forward pass accuracy of 88.3% and a passes to the final third accuracy of 90.5%.
These stats show just how impressive the 24-year-old has been in the midfield for the Gers, and while demonstrating why Anderlecht are interested in him, it also shows why it is vital the Gers keep him at Ibrox.
It is unlikely Rangers would let a key player leave this late in the transfer window, even if Anderlecht ended up bidding for Kamara, and we think it’s safe to assume he will be a Gers player for the rest of this season.
