‘Wow’, ‘Frightening’ – Some Rangers fans react to one ‘outstanding’ player v Galatasaray

Rangers captain James Tavernier turned in a performance of the highest quality as the Gers beat Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday night – and fans queued up to praise him on Twitter.

Tavernier scored what proved to be the winning goal as Rangers beat Turkish side Galatasaray 2-1 to progress to the group stage of the Europa League.

He headed in a searching cross from Borna Barisic which gave the Gers a 2-0 lead, before helping his side see out the victory.

Thursday night’s game was a ‘stand up and be counted’ game for the Gers squad.

Galatasaray presented Rangers with their hardest opposition this season, and they weren’t going to find beating the Turkish giants as easy as they found their previous Europa League ties against Lincoln Red Imps and Willem II.

In these type of games you have to count on your captain to lead by example, and that is exactly what Tavernier did. He barely put a foot wrong all night and was there to score the vital goal when it mattered.

Tavernier is making a habit of scoring goals this season – he’s now got seven goals in his last seven games in all competitions.

Most strikers would be happy with that tally. To get those kinds of numbers from right-back is simply phenomenal.

Rangers found out who they’re facing in the group stage on Friday and will be very happy.

They’re up against Standard Liege, Benfica and Lech Poznan, while Celtic have AC Milan and Lille.

Gers fans will be now be expecting another strong showing in Europe following their side’s journey to the last 16 last season, where they were eventually knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen.

One thing is for certain, if James Tavernier keeps performing to the level he hit against Galatasaray, then Rangers will fancy their chances against any opponent they face.

Here is how some Rangers fans reacted to Tavernier’s dominating performance:
