Report – Rangers stance on key Ibrox talent detailed amid interest from PL club
Rangers are set to tell West Ham that captain James Tavernier is not for sale in the last week of the transfer window, according to the Daily Record.
A recent report from TEAMtalk stated that the Hammers have identified the Ibrox skipper as a potential target as they look to bolster their defensive ranks.
The 28-year-old has two years left on his contract in Glasgow, and it is understood that the Gers are considering offering him an extension to his current deal.
With that in mind, they are expected to tell the Irons that there is no way they will be parting company with the full-back before the transfer deadline passes on October 5th.
The Record state that sources in London fear that any deal for Tavernier could be too expensive for West Ham, with Rangers set to take a firm stance and the defender happy with his current situation in Scotland.
Will Tavernier be leaving Rangers?
After this latest update, we can say with a fair amount of confidence that he won’t.
Given the amount of time remaining on his current contract, plus the fact that the player is unlikely to agitate for a move, it would be a major shock if he were to exit Ibrox before the transfer window shuts next week.
And keeping hold off Tavernier would be a major coup for the Gers.
The right-back has started this season in electric form, hitting six goals already – double the amount he managed in 2019/20.
As per Wyscout, he is performing better across the board too.
So far this term, his averages in terms of dribble success rate, cross accuracy, duels won, and passing accuracy are all notably higher than they were last season.
If he can keep that kind of form up, he will be a huge asset in our title push.
Letting him go at this stage would be lunacy.
