‘Please look somewhere else’, ‘Can’t be sold’ – Some Rangers fans worried by transfer report
Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to air concerns about a recent report which links right-back James Tavernier with a move to West Ham.
According to football news website TeamTalk, the Premier League club is plotting a bid to sign the 28-year-old Gers captain before the transfer window closes on Monday.
It is understood that Steven Gerrard will do what he can to ensure he doesn’t lose his club captain at such a late stage in the transfer window and Rangers are considering offering the right-back a new contract.
However, the idea of playing in the Premier League could appeal to someone like Tavernier with Brighton and Burnley interested in him as well as West Ham.
And that idea has some Rangers fans worried about the future of the star right-back, who scored twice from the penalty spot in the 5-1 win at Motherwell on Sunday.
One supporter simply said that Tavernier “can’t be sold”.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
One Rangers fan has a good idea on how to quell West Ham’s interest in Tavernier by slapping a huge £50million price-tag on his head.
We cannot argue with this approach at all.
No club should be contemplating selling a starter – let alone their club captain – in the final week of the transfer window.
Tavernier, at this stage, is irreplacable.
The former Newcastle right-back has scored six goals and supplied four assists in 11 appearances in both the Scottish Premiership and Europa League this season.
Find another right-back in top-flight football in Europe who contributes to goals as regularly as Tavernier does.
Even though most of his contributions come from set-pieces and penalties, it’s a massive achievement to provide as regularly from them as he does.
In other Rangers news, this player snubbed a move to Ibrox before agreeing a £500,000 move elsewhere.
