‘Nothing fazes him’ – Ex-teammate backs rarely-seen Rangers player to shine on ‘big stage’

One of Jordan Jones’ former teammates has said that “nothing fazes” the Rangers winger ahead of the Gers’ upcoming clash against Galatasaray in the Europa League.

Kilmarnock defender Kirk Broadfoot has sung the 25-year-old’s praises following his impressive performance against Motherwell last weekend, in which he scored his first goal for Steven Gerrard’s men.

Jones and Broadfoot played together at Killie before the winger moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2019, and the defender says that it’s a case of “the bigger the game, the better” for his old colleague.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Broadfoot said, “Nothing fazes him and if he is thrown in against Galatasaray then I am in no doubt he will be fine.

“He would also cause Galatasaray problems with his pace and trickery, I am in no doubt of that. I know from Kilmarnock it was a case of the bigger the game, the better for JJ.

“Jordan loves the big stage and if he gets the chance on Thursday then there is no doubt he would be in his element and would be a big, big player for Rangers.

“JJ has the mentality to play for Rangers. He has shown that because he has taken criticism and he has been out for the team for a long time but he has come back in and made his mark. He has dealt with that and I know he won’t get too carried away when the praise comes either.”

Is Jones back in the picture at Ibrox?

It certainly looks that way.

Jones was given his first start of the season against Motherwell on Sunday, after only getting his first minutes of the season against Willem II a few days before, but what an impact he made.

His goal was superbly taken, showing wonderful pace to get in behind his full-back and fantastic composure to rifle his effort in off the post.

This was arguably the first time that we’ve seen Jones hit something close to his full potential in a Rangers shirt following that horrendous knee injury that kept him sidelined for most of last season, and it was a timely reminder as to why he was brought to Ibrox, and what he can do when he is given game time.

If Jones is rewarded with another start against Galatasaray, and if he can make good on that opportunity, then it would be a remarkable turnaround for a player who was being heavily touted for an exit just a matter of weeks ago.
