Ibrox View: 100% forward pass accuracy – Did this Rangers ace have his best game yet v M’well?
Jordan Jones might finally have jumpstarted his Rangers career with his eye-catching performance in the 5-1 win over Motherwell on Sunday.
The winger scored his first goal since his move from Kilmarnock last summer, and barely put a foot wrong before being substituted in the 75th minute.
He took his goal extremely well, latching onto a Scott Arfield through ball before firing his shot in off the post, past a helpless Trevor Carson.
Sunday’s performance was by far the 25-year-old’s best performance in a Rangers shirt, and much improved from his limited outings last season – a campaign that was hampered by injury and saw him only make seven appearances in the league.
Jones managed to get 50% of his shots on target against Motherwell, improved on the 42.9% of his shots he managed to get on target last season in the Scottish Premiership. (Wyscout)
His passing accuracy was also notably better.
On Sunday, Jones managed a 77.8% passing accuracy, compared to 75.3% last term.
There was also an improvement in Jones’ total successful actions. In a disrupted 2019/20, just 55.6% of the winger’s total actions were successful, but on Sunday this was upped to 61.4%.
He also made more progressive runs too, and all in all this was the showing of a player who is beginning to recapture the confidence and attacking verve that convinced the Gers to swoop for him in the first place.
Jones was key for the Gers at Fir Park, and he caused constant problems for Motherwell in his 75-minute appearance, popping up all over the pitch, as the heat map below shows.
Defensively, Jones also improved.
Last season he won 40% of his defensive duels, but on Sunday he won every single one he contested.
That kind of work ethic could be a real asset to the Gers, and shows how he is looking to be more influential all over the pitch.
But mainly, this was a consistent and assured performance dripping with quality.
Jones achieved a 100% forward pass accuracy at Fir Park, which is up from the already impressive 90% accuracy he managed last term.
He also maintained a 100% pass accuracy in the final third, and there’s no doubting that this was a hugely influential display.
Jones was excellent for Rangers on Sunday, and if he can keep this level of performance up, he could be a real weapon for Steven Gerrard’s men this season.
