‘Being honest…’ – Rangers 25y/o was fearful over future at Ibrox before win at M’well
Rangers winger Jordan Jones has admitted he feared for his future at Ibrox after his limited chances in the past year.
The Northern Ireland international came off the bench against Willem II in midweek and made his first league start in over a year in the 5-1 win at Motherwell.
Jones grasped that opportunity, replacing Ianis Hagi at Fir Park and scoring the opening the goal to set the Bears on their way to an easy three points.
Jones admitted that he was starting to think his chance had gone, with the likes of Ryan Kent playing superbly in his position.
“Everyone knows how much I want to be here, hopefully, I have showed that as well today,” he said via Teeside Live.
“You train every day and hope that something is going to change but you can’t sit and complain when the team is performing as it is, Ryan Kent especially, and picking up points as it is.
“Did I get to a point where I thought things wouldn’t change? Probably, yeah, if I am being honest. Some weeks it is hard to see if you are ever going to get a chance again and if you can keep going.”
Steven Gerrard will have been delighted with the attitude of Jones, who came in and did his job phenomenally with Hagi struggling recently.
The 25-year-old completed 76 minutes against Motherwell and scored once from his two shots on goal according to WhoScored.
As well as that, Jones completed one tackle and was only dribbled past once as he got back in and helped James Tavernier with the dirty defensive work.
Jones was linked with a number of Championship clubs during this window, including Middlesbrough, although his latest performance has certainly proved he’s here to stay.
