‘I know who my money would be on’ – Clyde 1 broadcaster makes big Old Firm claim

Veteran sports writer and broadcaster Hugh Keevins has declared that Rangers would beat Celtic if the game were played tomorrow.

Following both Rangers and Celtic’s results in Europe this week, Keevins said Celtic are underperforming compared to their Glasgow rivals.

Celtic scored a last minute winner to nick a 1-0 win against Latvian outfit Riga FC. While Rangers travelled to Holland and eased to a 4-0 win against Willem II.

In his Daily Record column, Keevins also stated that he thinks Gerrard could soon become the target of other clubs looking for a manager, following his European success at Rangers.

He said, “Celtic avoided Riga-mortis in Latvia on Thursday night – but the pulse is weak and the patient is in intensive care. Rangers went to a proper football country in midweek and wiped the floor with Willem II in the Netherlands.

“The only downside to that result for the fans is that if Steven Gerrard keeps achieving eye-catching results in Europe, home and away, someone will try to lure him from Ibrox while disregarding zero success on the trophy front at domestic level.

“If Celtic were playing Rangers tomorrow, rather than October 17, I know who my money would be on.”

Rangers

October 17 looks set to be a huge day in the race for the Scottish Premiership title, even in this early stage of the season. With both Glasgow clubs separated by only one point as it stands before Sunday’s games, Rangers currently sit top of the tree but Celtic have a game in hand on the Gers.

Gerrard’s side will keep the memories of last season’s away win at Celtic in their minds when they travel to Celtic park, as the Gers look to win two in a row against their rivals.

Rangers have looked convincing in Europe this season, as they look to build on last season’s round of 16 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. So far in the Europa league the Light Blues have won two games, scoring nine and conceded none.

The Gers’ European journey continues next week against Turkish side Galatasaray at Ibrox, in what may prove to be a tougher test for Steven Gerrard’s side.
