Bassey starts in two key changes – Confirmed Rangers XI v Motherwell
Steven Gerrard has made two changes to his Rangers line up to face Motherwell from the Gers mid-week win against Willem II.
Allan McGregor keeps his place in Gerrard’s side following an impressive performance away in the Europa League.
Gerrard has brought in Calvin Bassey for Borna Barisic, who drops to the bench.
Jordan Jones also comes in for Ianis Hagi, following a disappointing performance in mid-week by the Romanian.
Gerrard only made one change for Rangers’ game against Willem II, bringing in Allan McGregor for Jon McLaughlin. The 38-year-old impressed between the sticks in Holland, keeping a clean sheet, and he keeps his place in Gerrard’s eleven.
The backline today stays the same aside from the Bassey switch, with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and James Tavernier starting. Tav is fresh from scoring his 50th Rangers goal in mid-week.
Ahead of them there is a midfield three of Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara and Scott Davis, with Jones and Ryan Kent out wide, and Alfredo Morelos continuing up top.
Morelos starts again after scoring against Hibs last week. While transfer rumours continue to surround the Colombian, could this be one of the final times we see Morelos in a Rangers shirt?
The team news was announced on the official Rangers Twitter, with the game being shown live on Sky Sports.
Gerrard’s defence will be keen to not concede today, after losing their record-breaking clean sheet record against Hibernian last time out in the league.
The Gers will also want to put down a marker to keep the pressure on title rivals Celtic who play Hibernian later today. Many fans will be hoping that Hibs can do to Celtic what they did to the Gers last week.
Rangers sit ahead of Celtic in the table by one point as is stands, but the Hoops have a game in hand on the Gers. With the league so tight, even in the early stages of this season, there is a certain pressure on both Glasgow clubs to keep winning.
