‘Outstanding’ – Carlos Queiroz excited by form of one Rangers player

Colombia manager Carlos Quieroz is “excited” by the form of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos in the opening weeks of the new Scottish season.

Although Morelos, 24, is admittedly not at his best, the Colombian ace has still managed to score five goals in eight appearances across all competitions, including one in the 2-2 draw at Hibernian last weekend.

Colombia are yet to announce their squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Chile but it seems that Morelos is on Queiroz’s mind with him potentially partnering Radamel Falcao up front.

“We have had some outstanding starts to the season from our players in Europe,” the former Real Madrid manager said, as quoted by GlasgowLive.

“I’m talking about Radamel Falcao, Alfredo Morelos and James Rodríguez in particular.

“The return of our captain Falcao is great for us and it will be interesting to see him with Morelos.

“I’m excited about my selection and this squad has a lot of players who have been in good form.

“After so long without a game we have many reasons to be optimistic about the future. The World Cup group is always difficult though.

“Brazil and Argentina are always strong of course, but Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Paraguay and Bolivia means we can’t afford to relax for a second.”

Morelos has been strongly linked with a move away from Rangers in the current transfer window but speculation has quietened down in recent weeks and it looks as though he’s set to stay until at least January.

Although the Colombian’s form at Ibrox has taken a big dip in 2020, we all know how good he can be when he’s fully focussed on his football because he can score goals for fun.

Once the transfer window closes and we continue to get into this rhythm we’re in right now, Morelos should get better and better but the ex-HJK striker does have more competition for his starting spot at Ibrox than he once did.

Cedric Itten, Jermain Defoe and Kemar Roofe could all replace Morelos at the flick of a switch if Steven Gerrard sees the Colombian’s form drop.

He knows that and he needs to get back to the level of performance he was displaying week in, week out in 2019.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have been handed a double injury boost ahead of the trip to Motherwell on Sunday.
