We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers youngster Jamie Barjonas might be better off leaving the club on loan this season to keep himself in “tip-top condition”.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former Gers boss suggested that it could be best for the 21-year-old to “get away” from his parent club before the transfer window shuts.
According to the Scottish Sun, Oldham Athletic are keen on taking the youngster on loan in the coming weeks.
And McLeish is open to the idea – especially if the alternative is a spell on the periphery in Glasgow.
Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “He’ll feel the vibes.
“He has to feel within whether Stevie has reassured him or if Stevie has – I’m not saying grown cold with him – but maybe is not as indulgent in terms of speaking to him as he might normally be.
“Possibly he has got to get away and get a loan to keep himself in tip-top condition.
“He would surely want to find out if he is in the long term plans.”
Barjonas has registered nine senior Rangers appearances in his career, but has yet to featuring for the Gers this term, despite playing in preseason.
The midfielder spent part of last season on loan with League One outfit Partick Thistle.
In other Rangers news, an ex-Real Madrid manager has been raving about this “outstanding” Gers star.
