‘Absolutely on fire’ – BBC pundit blown away by Rangers ace who put in ‘huge’ midweek display

Derek Ferguson has claimed that there is no reason why Rangers winger Ryan Kent couldn’t cut it at international level if he was given an England call-up.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder suggested that the wide man has been “absolutely on fire” so far this season.

His performances have drawn widespread praise, and none more so than from Gers assistant Gary McAllister, who has argued that recognition from the Three Lions must be “getting close”.

And Ferguson is inclined to agree with the Ibrox chief, especially after Kent’s standout showing against Willem II in the Europa League in midweek.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, he said: “Ryan Kent played a huge part in the game against Willem II.

“He’s absolutely on fire at the moment. Why not [give him an England call-up]?

“The young man has been on fire. He’s just a guy who is flying at the moment. He’s so confident, on top of his game.

“We’re talking about him playing in a European tie this week, a real good standard, and he produced the goods. He’s been excellent.”

Could Kent play for England?

To borrow from Ferguson a little, why not?

The winger has been in sensational form so far this season, and if international football truly is a meritocracy, then why shouldn’t he at least be in contention?

Kent already has five goals and five assists in nine appearances across all competitions this term, and has a higher dribble success rate than Jadon Sancho so far this season, as per Wyscout.

Playing in Scotland might hinder his chances, rightly or wrongly, but sometimes form transcends all, and we believe that Kent should get his chance, if he can sustain this impressive purple patch.
