Many Rangers fans blast ace who ‘will be away in January’ in ‘Nightmare’ display v Willem II

Rangers fans have slammed Ianis Hagi for his performance in the 4-0 win against Willem II in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Steven Gerrard’s side progressed to the Europa League play-offs but it wasn’t a perfect performance in the eyes of some supporters on Twitter.

Hagi, 21, is clearly a talented player but at times the Romania international has caused frustration among the fanbase because he’s so obviously better than what he lets on.

In the 2-2 draw against Hibernian at the weekend, Ally McCoist said on Sky Sports that Hagi is “half a yard short of being top-class“.

The ex-Rangers player and manager also gushes over the Romanian attacking midfielder for his “out of this world” pass to Scott Arfield ahead of his goal at Easter Road.

While Hagi failed to impress fans with his performance against Willem II, he still played a vital role in Ryan Kent’s goal in the first half with some good link-up play.

But, on the whole, the ex-Genk ace really struggled to get in the good books of those who tuned in to watch the Europa League showdown in the Netherlands.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Hagi was played out wide by Steven Gerrard on Thursday night, which could explain why he wasn’t as good as we all know he can be.

The Romanian doesn’t shine as much out wide as he usually does in a more central role.

Maybe that’s something for Gerrard to think about going forward but it doesn’t excuse the fact that some of the player’s touches and theatrics were a bit disappointing.

In other Rangers news, the Gers have hit an impasse in talks to sign this £4million-rated ace.
