Confirmed - Promising Rangers trio seal Ibrox loan exit

Rangers have confirmed that a trio of highly-rated youth prospects have headed out on loan to the Scottish Championship.

The Gers announced on Friday that Lewis Mayo, Josh McPake, and James Maxwell have been sent out to three separate second-tier clubs.

Between the three of them, they have just one senior appearance for Steven Gerrard’s side, with McPake making a 23 minute cameo in Europa League qualifying last season.

Centre-back Mayo has signed for Dunfermline Athletic, having spent part of last season with Partick Thistle.

McPake will link up with Greenock Morton, having spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign with Dundee.

Maxwell, the least experience of the trio having yet to make a senior appearance for the Gers or any other club, has signed for Queen of the South.

Are these good moves for the young trio?

If they’re going out and getting the regular senior minutes they need to continue their development, then yes, absolutely.

With Rangers pushing for a Scottish Premiership title this year, you would imagine that chances will be few and far between for anybody outside of Steven Gerrard’s core group of trusted and seasoned talents.

That’s not a reflection on Mayo, McPake, or Maxwell, but the simple fact is that their time hasn’t come just yet.

With that in mind, a loan feels like a no-brainer for all three.

And if you had to pick one that really catches the eye, you would be tempted to say Mayo’s move to Dunfermline.

The centre-back actually featured in preseason for the Gers, and as we have previously discussed here at Ibrox News, he looked very impressive too.

The defender has drawn high-praise from Peter Lovenkrands in the past, and this could be the spark that really allows him to ignite his development.

In other Rangers news, Ibrox View: BBC pundit rant surely shows that Rangers player needs to fix up or face axe.
