Rangers reach impasse in talks to sign £4m-rated player, manager confirms update – report
Rangers have reached an impasse in their talks to sign Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper claims that Preston have been demanding £4million for the 27-year-old and Rangers are failing to offer anywhere near that much.
Speaking about the future of Johnson in a press conference on Thursday, Preston manager Alex Neil confirmed that he is not expecting to lose the ex-Aston Villa player before the transfer window closes, suggesting that Rangers have pulled out of negotiations.
“All of that has gone away, thankfully. We are hoping it continues that way,” said Neil, as quoted by the Daily Record on Thursday.
“If you said to me right now, ‘how confident am I?’
“I am very confident that none of the lads will be away.”
Johnson would not have been a bad signing for Rangers based on how well he performed at Deepdale last season.
The Jamaican midfielder scored 12 goals and supplied eight assists in 33 Championship appearances with Darren Bent telling The Times in February that he “has taken his performances up a level” due to playing in a more advanced attacking midfield role.
Rangers would have benefitted from having a new in-form midfielder joining their attacking options but it seems as though Steven Gerrard will have to look elsewhere based on the updates from Neil and the Record.
There are still options out there but time is starting to run out now as deadline days edges ever closer.
In other Rangers news, this player is unlikely to play for the Gers again until they face Celtic.
