‘Sick and tired’ – BBC pundit slams Gerrard & Rangers over Alfredo Morelos claim
Michael Stewart has slammed Steven Gerrard over his comments regarding the challenge on Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos by Dundee defender Ryan Edwards.
Edwards escaped punishment after catching the South American with his studs a couple of weeks ago, much to the anger of Gerrard.
The Gers boss claimed it would have been different if it was Morelos making that challenge on Edwards – something he has since been charged with.
BBC pundit Stewart has reacted to that comment, claiming Rangers and Gerrard can’t act as the victim for Morelos given his discipline problems.
“I’m sick and tired of comments like that, to be perfectly honest,” he told the BBC.
“Look, Rangers have come out on a number of occasions and said they can’t defender Alfredo Morelos anymore, so he can’t both be the victim well there also saying they can’t defend him.
“It’s a bad tackle, Ryan Edwards is lucky to get away with it, he could have easily got a red card, but enough of this about ‘if it was Alfredo Morelos it would have been different’.”
Stewart certainly has a point, and although there may have been no need for the comment from Gerrard, he also had every right to voice his concern.
It was a shocking challenge by Edwards who has escaped punishment, different to Morelos, who has been sent off for altercations half as bad as that tackle.
As we mentioned, Gerrard has been charged for his comments, and the Gers released a statement on Wednesday regarding that, saying they will robustly contest that at the hearing.
