‘I’ve heard he’s keen’ – Former teammate of Rangers-linked No 10 tips 27y/o to make Ibrox impact
Ex-Rangers forward Andy Little has delivered a very positive verdict on Daniel Johnson moving to Ibrox.
Rangers have been linked to the Jamaican playmaker this week, with The Scottish Sun suggesting the Gers could get the move completed by the time Rangers play Motherwell this weekend.
Johnson scored 12 goals last season in the Championship, as he was awarded Preston’s player of the year accolade, and will bolster Steven Gerrard’s midfield options, should he join the Gers.
Speaking in the Scottish Sun, Little, who played with Johnson at Preston, said he believes that Johnson is ‘keen’ on moving to Ibrox and that he is similar to Steven Gerrard’s recent signings.
He said: “He’s a Steven Gerrard type of player. He’s very gifted, a good athlete and at a great point in his career. You look at his most notable recent signings – Hagi, Kent, Aribo – Johnson comes into the category and I have no doubt he can make an impact.
“I’ve heard that he’s keen to go to Rangers through my contacts down there so I think that’s very important. Getting the chance to go to Ibrox doesn’t happen every day of the week and I feel he will handle playing for Rangers.”
Johnson could be a great signing for the Gers if the move gets over the line, and he will certainly add quality to the Rangers midfield. Having performed well in the Championship he should be able to get up to speed in the Scottish top flight quickly.
He will also add versatility to Gerrard’s squad as he can operate as a number 10 and as a centre midfielder, which could take some of the pressure off Ianis Hagi as well as Joe Aribo
With both domestic and European campaigns underway for Rangers, Gerrard will be keen to add more depth to his squad, in the event of more injuries like the one currently keeping Aribo out.
However, it remains to be seen whether Gerrard will have Johnson available to him when Rangers look to get back to winning ways against Motherwell this weekend.
