‘Tremendous’ – Ibrox Exclusive: Alex McLeish delivers big Rangers verdict despite key setback

We’re delighted to welcome former Rangers manager Alex McLeish as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Alex McLeish has claimed that Rangers will be in a “tremendous” vein of confidence, despite the number of players they currently have struggling with injury.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the ex-Gers boss suggested that his former club’s exceptional start to the season will have done wonders to bolster belief in Glasgow.

Steven Gerrard’s men conceded their first goals of the Scottish Premiership season at the eighth time of asking against Hibernian on Sunday, and remain unbeaten at the summit of the table.

In recent weeks, the Gers have been without the likes of Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack, and Kemar Roofe after a spate of complaints at Ibrox, with Aribo looking doubtful for next month’s Old Firm clash at Parkhead.

But McLeish believes that Rangers will still go into that game with morale high.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he said: “Right now, there’ll probably be a tremendous confident mood within Ibrox, within the training ground.

“They’ll be going into games now thinking they can win every week.

“That is even without Joe Aribo, without the other injuries.

“But there’s no doubting that come the long run, these players will be needed, absolutely needed.”

Rangers’ next outing comes in the Europa League against Willem II on Thursday evening.

The Dutch side have won one and lost one of their opening two Eredivisie matches, and currently sit eighth in the table having finished fifth last term.
