Nathan Patterson names dream Rangers five-a-side team, omits Alfredo Morelos and Borna Barisic
Rangers youngster Nathan Patterson has picked his ideal five-a-side team from Steven Gerrard’s current Ibrox squad.
The starlet has been a regular feature in the manager’s match day setup since making his debut in the Scottish Cup against Stranraer at the beginning of the year.
And it would appear that he is a big admirer of a number of his senior teammates.
Patterson partook in a Q&A on Twitter with the Gers’ youth development made on Tuesday afternoon, and was faced with an interesting hypothetical on which five players he would most like to see in a small-sided team.
Ruling himself out, he said: “Good question.
“I should probably put myself in!
“But I would say Greegsy in goal, Connor Goldson or Tav at the back, then Steven Davis, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo.”
Has Patterson made the right call?
There are a couple of interesting take aways from this.
Firstly, we probably would have had Ryan Jack sitting in that midfield area instead of Steven Davis.
No offence to the veteran Northern Irishman, but Jack is absolutely vital to the way the Gers play, and having him sitting bossing things on a five-a-side pitch would be pretty difficult to top.
Perhaps even more intriguing, however, is the fact that Patterson fails to include a single striker.
Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo are both major threats, don’t get us wrong, but surely you’d want Alfredo Morelos or Kemar Roofe in there putting themselves about and poaching goals?
Moreover, this would seemingly suggest that Patterson doesn’t quite view either in the same bracket as Kent and Aribo.
Of course, we can’t read too much into this, but it certainly does give a fascinating glimpse into the hierarchy of talent behind the scenes at Ibrox.
