‘Great to see’ – Rangers talent blown away by mainstay he wishes to ’emulate’

Rangers defender Nathan Patterson has slowly started to work his way into the first-team set up at Ibrox since the arrival of Steven Gerrard.

It hasn’t been easy for the Gers talent, with captain James Tavernier currently ahead of him at right-back in the side.

Patterson got another taste of first-team action in the 5-0 victory against Lincoln Red Imps in the Europa League last week.

The 18-year-old was recently asked what advice he has been given by Tavernier, and if he can replace him sooner rather than later.

“Every day in training I can watch and learn from what Tav does,” he wrote on Twitter.

“The way he trains and how he acts around everyone is great to see and I want to emulate him and adapt what he does into my game. He can definitely help make me a better player.”

Patterson went on to claim that he wants to make that position his own at Ibrox, and we have to admire that determination.

This is the exact type of ambition we want to be seeing from our younger players, rather than just settling for a place as a rotation option.

Gerrard has proved he will give Patterson chances, but Tavernier is clearly the number one option – making the youngsters’ answer even more impressive.

Tavernier himself has been left impressed by Patterson, claiming that he has everything needed for a bright future at Ibrox.

“He has got great attributes to his game and as long as he keeps working hard at his game, as he is now, he will have a very good future,” he told the Glasgow Evening Times.

We also believe Patterson is set for an exciting future with the Gers, although he may have to wait some years before cementing his spot in the side.
